GGC was awarded a Shell Oil project to complete a wharf rehabilitation of their 1938 Mormon Island Terminal. The rehabilitation project is one of several improvements that must be completed at the facility in order to comply with the Marine Oil Terminal Engineering and Maintenance Standards (MOTEMS). These standards were instituted to ensure that older structures are upgraded to meet current seismic design criteria and can safely berth and receive petroleum product vessels.

The rehabilitation project is divided into two phases: Berth 168 and Berth 169. The project includes the installation of eight new monopole berthing dolphins, precast concrete caps, fenders and quick release hooks, as well as miscellaneous timber demolition and wharf improvements. The eight new piles measure 54 inches by 124 feetand have a variable wall construction and thickness ranges from 1 to 2 inches. They weigh in at approx 54 tons and are designed to be driven to approximately 73 feet of embedment.
